From $40,000 to $4,000: A Dropshipping Lesson Every Jordan Seller Should Learn

My name is Kevin, and at just 24 years old, I learned a hard but valuable lesson in ecommerce. Back in the summer of 2001, I made over $40,000 selling dropshipped products on eBay. Unfortunately, poor decisions and lack of experience caused most of that profit to disappear, leaving me with only $4,000. This story is meant to help others avoid repeating my mistakes.

When buying Jordans, authenticity is everything. The Jumpman logo is one of the easiest details to verify. Always compare it with official product images and pay close attention to proportions and stitching. Holograms are another key indicator—authentic shoes feature a high-quality 3D hologram. If it looks flat or cheaply printed, the product may be fake.

Shipping is another common pitfall for new sellers. Some merchants reuse random boxes or source free packaging from local stores. While this may reduce short-term costs, poorly packaged items often arrive damaged—and insurance won’t always cover losses caused by inadequate packing. Investing in proper boxes is a small cost that protects your business in the long run.

Whether you’re selling general merchandise or sourcing wholesale cheap jordans, success comes from understanding quality control, logistics, and market demand. There will always be suppliers willing to work with you and buyers ready to purchase—if you do things the right way.
